Important update: HOPELINE247 is no longer operating

Hopeline update

We are saddened to hear that PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide has closed and its HOPELINE247 service is no longer operating.

For many years, HOPELINE247 provided vital support to young people experiencing thoughts of suicide, as well as concerned parents, carers and professionals. We recognise the important role the service has played and the difference it has made to people across the UK.

The closure may understandably leave people wondering where they can now turn for help. It is important to know that support is still available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Where to get support

If you, or someone you know, needs support now:

Samaritans
Call 116 123 – free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Shout
Text SHOUT to 85258 – free, confidential text support available 24/7.

NHS 111
Call 111 for urgent mental health support.

In an emergency
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.

Young people can also access digital mental health and wellbeing support through Kooth’s Soluna app.

Please help us share this update

HOPELINE247 may still be listed on websites, posters, leaflets and other resources. If your organisation currently signposts people to HOPELINE247, please review and update your information as soon as possible so that people are directed towards services that remain available.

We would also encourage Derbyshire’s VCFSE organisations, professionals and community groups to share this information through their networks.

The loss of a service dedicated to preventing young suicide is deeply felt. But for anyone who needs help today, the most important message is:

You are not alone. Support is still available.
