FREE Online Training: Women and Gambling-Related Harm

GamCare is a national provider of free information, advice and treatment for anyone affected by problem gambling. There are around 500,000 problem gamblers in the UK, up to 20% of whom are women. For every person who has a problem with gambling, up to 10 other people can be affected, and women are disproportionately at risk of experiencing gambling-related harm. Gambling-related harm can include debt, relationship difficulties, housing issues, gender-based violence, health problems, depression and anxiety, feelings of isolation, and suicidality.

Our FREE training is usually offered face-to-face, but we now have a 2 hour session which we are delivering online via Zoom. Individuals can register to attend the training at their convenience, using a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop.Book your place using Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/women-and-gambling-related-harm-free-online-training-tickets-104981366092?aff=ebdssbonlinesearch

During the training session, we will talk about gambling-related harm, risk factors, impacts, and how to recognise and support people affected. Learn about our treatment network and how to refer clients to our free treatment services. This training is essential for any professionals who work with women and families.

Hospice referrals surge following union between two local charities

Referrals for hospice care in the comfort of patient’s homes across the Derbyshire Dales and North East Derbyshire have surged by more than 160% since two local charities joined forces.

Blythe House Hospicecare, based in Chapel-en-le-Frith, and Helen’s Trust in Bakewell announced their formal partnership in September, but have been working together officially since April.

The charities provide 24/7 palliative and end of life care in the homes of patients with life-limiting illnesses including cancer, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and neurological conditions like motor neurone disease.

Referrals are made to the team for a variety of reasons including respite sits so that a carer can get some much-needed rest or to run errands; to get a patient home from hospital; crisis avoidance, where a family is in need of support quickly to help with a potentially distressing or emotional situation; and for end of life care when a patient is in the final weeks or days of life.

Hospice at Home healthcare assistants have provided this care across the Dales and North East Derbyshire, including in Alfreton, Bakewell, Birchover, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Clowne, Dronfield, Eckington, Hathersage, Matlock and Shirebrook.

New peer support group looking to connect with people who wish to improve their mental health and wellbeing

The Dronfield Wellbeing Group was established in Spring 2020 with the aim of providing a safe environment to support people affected by mental health issues, whether Dronfield residents, or from further afield.

Our group is unique in that we aim to combine a physical meeting with an online video meeting. Our group currently meets in person at a central location in Dronfield, and also has a live video link enabling people to join us from the comfort of their own home if they prefer not to attend in person.

Peer support is about coming together to provide a listening ear to each other, sharing experiences and resources, and strengthening our coping strategies to improve our mental health and wellbeing. We provide a friendly and confidential environment for members.

We are actively looking for new members, regardless of where you live. The group currently meets every Monday (socially distanced) from 7:30pm at Gosforth Lodge (Cliffe Park), Dronfield, Derbyshire S18 2XP, and also has a live video link enabling people to join us via Zoom.

If you would like to join us for a meeting or would like more information please contact us by phone 07737 315211 or email info@dronfieldwellbeing.org
